Art, Leisure, & Recreation Programs

Members of the East End Advisory Committee
Our Art, Leisure, and Recreation Program offers a variety of fun activities that target the physical, cognitive, and social health of our older adult participants. We work with participant advisory committees to tailor activities to the unique interests and needs of the community. College students assist in leading the activities and socializing with participants, adding a beneficial intergenerational component to our programs.

We provide leisure and recreational activities at our sites year-round. Activities support physical health (cornhole, balloon pickleball, etc), cognitive health (puzzles, games, crafting, etc), and social health (holiday parties, special events, etc).

What Are OMA Participants Saying?
“When I’m making art, it takes me to a different place – happy places. It relaxes my mind.”
“I love the different colors and how it makes me happy. If I’m feeling depressed it puts me in a better mood!”
Opening Minds Through Art
Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is an evidence-based intergenerational arts program developed by the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University. Originally for older adults with dementia, Richmond Aging and Engaging has adapted the program for all older adults in the community.
OMA supports the well-being of older adults with a focus on relationship-building, active engagement, a sense of purpose, and accomplishment. For more information on OMA (or if you want to implement OMA in your community), click HERE to go to the Scripps’ OMA site.
Richmond Aging and Engaging offers a community-based adaptation of the evidence-based and award-winning program, Opening Minds through Art (OMA). The 8-week, intergenerational art program is offered yearly at each of our program sites.
The program brings college students to low-income senior housing buildings to guide older adult artists through the abstract art-making process. The results are beautiful intergenerational relationships and beautiful works of art!
